Health Institute Join us Tuesday, January 29, 2013 for a full-day Health institute. Designed for directors, health coordinators and other interested staff, the institute will focus on the future for Head Start's model of providing comprehensive health services. Sessions will address the opportunities and dangers arising from the Affordable Care Act (ACA); practical lessons from programs already working with the ACA; and dialogue with partners in providing preventative health services.
Sessions Understanding the Affordable Care Act 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) offers additional funding streams for EHS home visiting and other services that support Head Start families, but Head Start still has a critical role to play in ensuring families' health needs are met. Join this conversation to hear more about the potential issues and opportunities surrounding the implementation of the ACA. (Lunch will be provided) 12:00 p.m. - 1:15 p.m. In the wake of the enactment of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (“PPACA”), non-profits – like virtually all employers – are examining a number of new strategies to control health insurance costs. Join us to hear about the various private exchange models that operate in the current marketplace and explore the features that make a private exchange an attractive option. In addition, we will discuss how the new state-based exchanges and the federally facilitated exchange will work, and how these new entities will interact with large and small employers alike. Presented by Venable LLP Partners in Prevention 1:45 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. The partnerships Head Start programs are able to develop strengthen their effectiveness in all areas—and particularly in health. This session will present a number of potential partners who are working in many communities across the country to ensure access to preventive health care and encourage healthy lifestyles.
