January 23, 2011 - January 27, 2011
Washington, DC
In the stark new reality of 2011, status quo approaches will not ensure the future of Head Start and Early Head Start. Leadership will be the decisive factor in successfully navigating this most challenging of times - leadership with purpose, skill and clear strategies.
In a historic partnership, the National Migrant Seasonal Head Start Association and the National Head Start Association are providing an outstanding opportunity for a new kind of professional development for Head Start leaders in Washington, DC, January 23-27. We look forward to a gathering of leaders from every corner, every region, every state of the country and every part of the Head Start /Early Head Start community - directors, parents, staff, state and regional directors.
Leadership Institute presenters, panelists and speakers will address the array of strategies for resetting the agendas of Head Start and early childhood education consumers and advocates, so that we can ensure that the investments in Head Start are understood, valued and continued.
We will meet with Republican and Democratic pollsters, journalists, Congressional insiders and others to gain important insights into the workings of the new Congress. We'll spend an entire day on Capitol Hill demonstrating that Head Start works and helping Members of Congress understand what a great investment opportunity Head Start is for their communities. Creatively conceived and executed, the day will begin with an opportunity to have breakfast with your Member of Congress or their staff, during which the many benefits of Head Start will be presented. Later, when you meet with your Members of Congress in their offices you can share the specific stories and facts you bring from their Districts and states.
Another full day is devoted to learning new skills for moving Head Start forward in this changed environment. Learn how to work with the media (including managing public relations crises), gain skills in securing support for your program at the grassroots level, and even learn how video can be an effective tool locally.
There will be many networking opportunities, and a chance to hear from the Office of Head Start.
This Leadership Institute will occur at a unique moment for our country and for Head Start. We hope you will join us as we fully experience history as it unfolds and where it unfolds.
