Selecting the Administrator or Mid-Manager Credential

Administrators and mid-managers will follow the same daily course work agenda; however, synthesis groups and Capstone proposals will vary according to the credential the candidate wishes to receive.

Each candidate will register to receive only one of these credentials. The credential you select should be based upon the skills that you would like to support the requirements of your current position. since no two Head Start programs are alike and each is designed to meet unique community needs, deciding which credential is best for you may depend on how your program is structured and the role you play in your program. To decide which credential is for you, the following may be used for guidance:

Manager: A manager may focus on skills needed to supoort the day-to-day implementation of practices and standards that uphold the provision of quality services. Managers often carry such position titles as manager, specialist, or coordinator. Occasionally program directors serving in large agencies with many administrative layers have opted to receive a Manager credential.

Administrator: An administrator may focus on administrative practices that address the oversight and coordination of program functions, systems, and program operations. Administrators may carry the title of program director and, therefore, have responsibility for all program operations. However, others who are serving at the administrative level of a program but may oversee only one or two specific program areas may also choose to receive this credential.
