Building on a six-year relationship between NHSA and Nike's Community Investment, this partnership enhances children’s love for physical activity, involves their families in leading physically active lives, and helps prevent sedentary lifestyles before they ever take hold. Nike is issuing a series of one-year grants totaling $2.5 million over five years.
Participating Head Start instructors receive a “playbook” of activities, customized training from SPARK (Sports, Play and Active Recreation for Kids), and equipment to implement the program – including parachutes, easy-to-catch balls, beanbags, and balance beams.
Nike's Community Investment also provides parents with resources to replicate the program’s activities at home. From “Knees Up Mother Brown” to “Beanbag Boogie,” parents and children learn how ordinary objects like socks and scarves can be used for movement and physical activity. To learn more, click here.
