Yesterday, at the House appropriations subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies mark-up, the sub- committee approved a $75 million increase for HS/EHS programs for fiscal year 2008. This does not even keep up with inflation.
Child Care & Development Block Grant also received a $75 million increase. The complete table from yesterdays mark up can be read at: http://appropriations.house.gov/pdf/08LHDetail_HouseSC_WEB.pdf
The next step is for the House Appropriations Committee to consider whether to approve the $75 million increase. We have been told that this may happen the latter half of next week.
Please contact your representative and the members of the House Appropriations Committee and ask instead for a $750 million increase in funding for fiscal year 2008.
Call the Capitol switchboard at 202-225-3121 to be connected to the members of the committee and your representative.
