Call for Writers

We are currently seeking submission for Children and Families, the award-winning quarterly magazine of the National Head Start Association. Each issue of the magazine is distributed nationally and is filled with creative ideas, practical solutions, and expert advice to help early childhood professionals — primarily Head Start and Early Head Start directors, classroom teachers, and other staff members — provide high-quality services to children and families. Help make Head Start a truly collaborative program by sharing your knowledge, experience, and successes with other early childhood professionals!

Possible article topics include but are not limited to the following:

• Early childhood development
• Leadership
• Management/administrative issues
• Behavior/classroom management
• Parental/male involvement
• Health and safety
• Assessment and outcomes
• Fundraising
• Meeting Head Start Program Performance Standards
• Going beyond minimum requirements
• Professional development
• Curriculum-related topics
• Transition practices
• Partnerships

If you are interested in contributing an article, please e-mail a brief article proposal to julie@nhsa.org. Proposals should include the following information:

1. Proposed article title.
2. Author’s name, affiliations, and contact information (e-mail address, telephone number, and mailing address).
3. Intended audience (e.g., Head Start directors).
4. Objective of article (i.e., please state what you are trying to teach or convey to readers).
5. Brief description of why the topic is important to early childhood professionals or how they will benefit from reading the article.
6. Brief outline of article (i.e., a list of the major points or areas you will cover in the article).
7. Possible sidebar information (for example, charts, forms, list of resources, and so forth).
