NHSA and the Wisconsin Head Start Association are pleased to announce that US Representative Dave Obey from Wisconsin's 7th congressional disctrict will receive the fourth Lady Bird Johnson Head Start Heroes Award. Rep. Obey will be presented with the award at a recognition reception on Wednesday, September 23rd 2009, during the NHSA Leadership Institute.
Rep. Obey, Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, has long been a champion for children's issues and a stalwart supporter of Head Start and Early Head Start. He is truely a Head Start Hero.
The award was created in 2007by the Massachusetts Head Start Association and was named after Claudia "Lady Bird" Johnson in honor of her role as Honorary Chair of Head Start during the Johnson administration. Previous recipients are the late Sen. Edward Kennedy (2007), Rep. George Miller (2008), and Elliott Richardson (posthumously in 2009).
