Washington, D.C. - Today, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pension subcommittee on Children and Families held a hearing to examine quality early education and care.
The following statement should be attributed to Yasmina Vinci, executive director of the National Head Start Association:
"I applaud the subcommittee for examining approaches that effectively provide children with quality early childhood education and care. As a 45-year commitment to providing quality early childhood education, Head Start/Early Head Start offers our most vulnerable children a window of opportunity to set a course for lifetime success through critical early education, health and support services. As Congress makes tough decisions about getting the nation's fiscal house in order, I urge our elected officials to act in the best interest of at-risk children by maintaining sufficient and robust funding for Head Start/Early Head Start. While examining care approaches is a critical step toward delivering effective early education and care, providing necessary funding to implement these programs is fundamental to securing the future of millions of children and families."
Yasmina Vinci, Executive Director of the National Head Start Association (www.nhsa.org), was the first Executive Director of the National Association of Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies (NACCRRA), has held leadership positions in local, state and national early childhood education organizations and serves on a number of governing Boards of national and local organizations.
