(Early evening, local time)
This year, the Office of Head Start (OHS) is celebrating 50 years of Head Start programs. As part of the festivities, OHS is coordinating a national party on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015. It will take place in October as part of Head Start Awareness Month. Get out your Head Start "blocks" and join the festivities!
The Head Start Block Party will:
We invite you to plan an event to bring your whole Head Start community together, and to join the national celebration. Use this opportunity to show off your Head Start blocks logo as a flag, button, or poster. Be creative!
If you have a regular fall event, such as a Cultural Festival or Open House, we hope you schedule it to align with this national celebration. This will be a great chance to honor the families, staff members, volunteers, community partners, and other key stakeholders that have prepared your Head Start children for success in school and in life. Consider inviting alumni and highlighting their success. Since October is Head Start Awareness Month, the event could support exposure of your program to new partners, eligible families, and the broader community.
OHS will broadcast a short national message by Head Start leadership and special guests from the Fall Festival at the Campagna Center Head Start and Early Head Start program in Alexandria, VA. The national OHS Anniversary Celebration Broadcast will highlight Head Start milestones and our ongoing successes. Every program is invited to tune in during their celebration. Take this time to bring in the national context as you celebrate the unique success of your Head Start.
The live event will air at 5:30 p.m. ET. It will be re-broadcast at 5:30 p.m. local time in the Central, Pacific, and Hawaii time zones. It also will be archived in the Head Start 50thAnniversary section of the Early Childhood Learning and Knowledge Center (ECLKC). We hope that you use the most convenient airing of the broadcast during your event.
