NIKE, JOHNSON & JOHNSON, AND HHS JOIN NATIONAL HEAD START ASSOCIATION FOR ITS 31 st ANNUAL TRAINING CONFERENCE IN ANAHEIM
Anaheim , California , will serve as host to the National Head Start
Association’s 31 st Annual Training Conference. The conference
will take place April 21-24, 2004 at the Hilton Anaheim. Thousands of
Head Start staff and parents will be on hand to participate in extensive
training. Highlights and speakers include:
— Awards to Nike; Johnson & Johnson; UCLA’s Anderson
School of Business; and Childcraft, abc, and School Specialty Companies
for contributions to Head Start
— Dr. Wade Horn, Assistant Secretary for Children and Families,
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)
— Dr. Edward Zigler, Sterling Professor of Psychology and Director
of the Bush Center in Child Development and Social Policy, Yale University
— U.S. Representative and Head Start alumna Loretta Sanchez (D-Calif.)
— U.S. Representative and former Head Start teacher Maxine Waters
(D-Calif.)
Sarah Greene , president and CEO of the National Head Start Association
said: “This years’ national training conference is rich with
opportunity. Attendees can study under leaders in early childhood development,
exchange best practices, accrue CEUs, and network with colleagues from
across the country. We are proud to host this truly unique event.”
More than 400 educational sessions will cover topics ranging from father
involvement to fundraising to mental health. Six new Special Interest
Focus Forums feature nationally acclaimed experts. Topics range from “Parent
Power: A Closer Look” with Dr. Lillian Katz from the University
of Illinois to “Is Head Start Working?” with Dr. Michael
Lopez from HHS’s Administration for Children and Families.
