Senator Paul Wellstone (D-MN), his wife, daughter, and several
close aides, died in a plane crash in northern Minnesota Friday,
October 25th. Senator Wellstone was a champion of various
causes on behalf of low-income children and families, including
ensuring that every child in America is able to participate
in Head Start.
Sarah Greene, president and CEO of the National Head Start
Association made the following short statement,
“Today America lost a true champion of Head Start children
and families. Paul always fought hard for the voiceless in
our society and worked each and every day to make sure that
every child in this country had the opportunity to live up
to their highest potential. He had strong convictions and
held to them with unflinching determination. He was someone
with great courage and a loving heart. We considered him a
member of our family. He will be deeply missed.”
