Disaster Relief Fund


The NHSA Disaster Relief Fund is a permanent assistance program. Developed initially to assist the Head Start Community during the 9/11 attacks, the fund is now used to assist Head Start & Early Head Start Programs, staff, and families who become victims of natural disasters. NHSA provides assistance in the form of cash donations, based on need.

  • Direct assistance to an Head Start/Early Head Start Program: $5,000
  • Direct assistance to Head Start/Early Head Start employee or parent: $500
 

Disaster Relief Fund Guidelines

Applications must be submitted by the Head Start/Early Head Start program seeking assistance for themselves, their staff or parents. The Head Start Director must be responsible for ensuring the following:

  • Aaccountability for funds.
  • Disbursing funds as easy and quickly as possible.
  • Funds are not used to duplicate other assistance programs.
  • Funds requested should be in proportion to the need.
  • Establishment of easy, short forms for fund recipients to certify and sign.
  • Maintenance of proper records.
  • Final report due to NHSA sixty (60) days after expending funds.
