Washington, D.C. - On Wednesday, October 19, 2011, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee will consider legislation crafted to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).
The following statement should be attributed to Yasmina Vinci, executive director of the National Head Start Association:
"I applaud Chairman Tom Harkin and Ranking Member Mike Enzi for their leadership in introducing bipartisan legislation that enables meaningful collaboration between Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) and early learning providers. We are particularly pleased that the Senate bill encourages increased coordination among school districts and Head Start agencies, an important step that will lead to smoother transitions for at-risk children and families from Head Start to K-12 public school systems. By fostering a shared, productive administrative environment and removing unnecessary barriers to cooperation, Head Start and local school districts will be better equipped to place students and parents on a pathway to lifelong success."
