This Year's Theme

With Head Start's 50th anniversary behind us, it's time to look toward "The Next Generation of Opportunity."

About the National Conference

NHSA’s 43rd annual National Head Start Conference and Expo is the largest national event devoted to the Head Start and Early Head Start community. From May 16th - 20th, more than 4,000 executive directors, directors, administrators, managers, teachers, policy council members, and parents from every state and territory will gather in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Head Start and Early Head Start community is driven like none other to provide opportunities for success in the lives of our nation’s vulnerable children. Every year the Head Start community pulls together to discuss the latest developments, innovations, and obstacles in early learning and to inspire ideas for turning challenges into opportunities.

Beginning Head Start’s 51st year, we enter a new phase in Head Start’s history - and we find ourselves in the spotlight more than ever. The 2016 national conference provides the perfect opportunity to turn our sights and our imaginations toward the future and explore ways to drive Head Start’s mission even farther!

What makes the National Head Start Conference unique?

Sessions and Workshops make up the bulk of the program.  Concurrent times are listed in the program book.  Sessions range from 30 minutes to 3 hours. Search through planned sessions at the link above.

Networking opportunities take place throughout the week.  From gathering together by region, affinity group, or learning community – all networking sessions are open and welcoming.

Keynotes and Featured Sessions are selected to celebrate and inform our community of critical issues and the opportunities emerging for the next generation!

Special Events include our ticket events such as Excellence Breakfast, Research and Public Policy Luncheon, Scholarships and Awards Dinner, as well as excursions to downtown Nashville and local tours. Special events are offered for an additional fee to your conference badge.

The New Directors Orientation was created to help empower new directors still getting their bearing in Head Start. Designed in collaboration with veteran directors, this orientation aims to flatten Head Start’s learning curve by providing valuable hands-on experience and insight.

The Policy Institute, Data Track, and Research Instituteelevate and highlight emerging trends, data driven discussions, and thoughtful leaders impacting Head Start and early education.

The National Head Start Expo connects hundreds of commercial, non-profit, and government resources with thousands of attendees.  Gather new ideas, products and solutions for your agency.  Access to the expo is included with your conference badge.
