About the Workshop

Do you aspire to achieve extraordinary things in your agency or community?

Are you seeking an opportunity to acquire the tools for personal growth and leadership?

Do you seek to promote a shared vision for your organization?

If you are, then this workshop is for you! Join us to explore “The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership,” James Kouzes & Barry Posner's evidence-based experiential model that starts with the premise that "leadership is everyone's business." As decades of their research have proven-and thousands of leadership case studies reveal - each of us has the capacity to lead and to make a difference. Our guiding principles include the belief that leadership development is self-development, that it takes practice, and that it is both an aspiration and a choice. Through a series of creative learning activities and exercises, this workshop will demystify the concept of leadership development and approach it as a measurable and learnable set of behaviors.

Each attendee will receive the extensive Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI) for use throughout the two-day training. Over three million people have used the Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI) as a first step to reaching their personal leader best, clearly demonstrating what three decades of ongoing research affirms: that leadership is a practice that can be taught and learned by anyone. Effective leadership is not an inborn skill available to a select few. Rather it is a set of observable behaviors that, with deliberate practice, can help everyone be more effective and make more of a positive difference in the workplace, in the community, and in the world.

“Anyone can learn to be an effective leader with the right feedback and tools.”

Jim Kouzes & Barry Posner, authors of LPI Online and The Leadership Challenge®

The LPI 360 – Online is an observer-based tool for leaders and managers at all levels in an organization. The assessment contains 30 behavioral statements – six for each of The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership® and takes 10 to 20 minutes to complete. Leaders complete the LPI Self, rating themselves on the frequency with which they believe they engage in each of the 30 behaviors. Five to ten other people – typically selected by the leaders – complete the LPI Observer, indicating the frequency with which they think the leader engages in each behavior.

Once the LPI has been completed by the leader and all observers, responses to the assessments’ thirty statements are combined to produce a customized report that provides a complete picture of the leader’s present level of leadership skills. The LPI Feedback Report – when accompanied by training, coaching, or debriefing – is an essential part of the 360-degree feedback process and key to generating the most positive outcomes for participants.

This workshop is facilitated by two Head Start Association Directors with a demonstrated ability to initiate and foster successful partnerships and strategic alliances with government, allied agencies and stakeholders in the Head Start community through personal leadership. But, most importantly, they share your commitment to building and supporting strong leaders and advocates among all who both work in and are impacted by Head Start.
