We asked Nehemiah’s mother, Tiffany, to talk about how Head Start has helped her son and her family. Here is what she said:
“My son Nehemiah began Head Start when he was two years old. Since then, Head Start has helped him develop his social skills and he’s now very advanced for his age and always talking about what he’s done and learned. Nehemiah loves his teacher, Ms. Kelly, who always has creative activities for the class. The teachers at Audubon Area Community Services, Inc. are all well trained and I never have to worry about his safety. Head Start has been a helpful program for our family. They helped my other son with speech services and even helped me connect to the community through their events.
When I asked Nehemiah what he wanted to be when he grew up, he used to say that he wanted to be Batman, but now he says that he wants to be a leader. What type of leader does he want to be? When I asked him that, he said, ‘I haven’t thought that far yet, Mom.’”
Throughout Head Start Awareness Month we are spotlighting alumni from across the country. Check back every weekday as we publish new stories!
