For Alumni, Families and Champions

NHSA believes that the best way to ensure that Head Start continues to be accessible for our nation’s most at-risk children and families is through engaged advocacy. Head Start graduates, their families and supporters all have an important role to play in securing that the window of opportunity remains open for millions of children who will need it for the next 50 years. By utilizing these resources and taking action right now we hope to empower you to become a Head Start champion. After all, Head Start Works!

Act Now

Do you want to make sure that the Head Start window of opportunity remains open for our most vulnerable children and families for generations to come?  You can ensure the legacy continues by participating in these quick and effective advocacy actions.

Send a letter to your member of Congress asking them to get to know Head Start better and supporting robust Head Start funding in the coming fiscal year!

Donate to Dollar per Child to ensure that NHSA can continue to advocate on behalf of Head Start and remain the most powerful voice for Head Start children and families in the nation’s capital and across the country.

Volunteer at your local Head Start program or with one of our partners.

Use our Head Start Works! Advocacy 101 Toolkit to learn how to powerfully tell your Head Start story, conduct meetings with your members of Congress and other elected officials, master our Head Start talking points and organize events to support Head Start.

If you are a Head Start graduate or the proud parent of a Head Start student show your pride by joining NHSA’s Head Start Alumni Network!  By joining the Alumni Network you will connect with your peers and hear about the amazing work that many of them are doing across the country. Alumni Network members will also be given the opportunity to share their stories and participate in advocacy initiatives that highlight how Head Start impacted them and their families.

If you are the parent of a current Head Start student you can apply to NHSA’s First Advocates Pilot Projectinitially being offered in three states with plans to expand in the coming year. Through a year long advocacy training program, Head Start parents learn the skills necessary to become their child’s first and greatest advocates.
