“Conversations are taking place across America about how our nation can address the needs of every child during the critical early years. This is the moment we have all hoped for. It is a moment we intend to seize.”
NHSA’s Senior Manager of Government Affairs, Tommy Sheridan, recently gave comments at the Department of Education’s public meeting on the Preschool Development Grant Competition. NHSA’s submitted comments to the U.S. Department of Education on the Pre-K Grant process highlighted the need for a focus on high standards, a mixed delivery model, serving our nation’s most vulnerable children, and strong partnerships among local providers for these grants to be successful.
“While a comprehensive PreK program remains a vision for tomorrow,” Tommy continued, “these grants represent an immediate opportunity to expand access to high quality early learning programs today.”
The successful implementation of Preschool Development Grants offers a great opportunity for Head Start to expand access for at-risk children. NHSA’s participation in this discussion will be key in the upcoming months and throughout the implementation of the grants.
