Diversity Resources

Head Start is committed to nurturing empathetic critical thinkers who will make their communities, and our world, a better place. These resources promote equity in early learning, support positive identity development, and guide parents and caregivers through important conversations.

Supporting the AAPI Community

Head Start proudly partners with families in every community across the country, embracing diversity as a strength and celebrating cultural differences. As we have spoken with Head Start leaders whose programs support predominantly AAPI families, many have expressed fear and worry for their safety and for the emotional well-being of the children and families they support. We hear these fears and we are compelled to address them by amplifying their voices and offering the support that each individual community needs.

Supporting LGBTQ+ Families

The Head Start community knows that welcoming differences and ensuring equality, respect and dignity for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, is critical to ensuring that all children and families thrive. We hope that the resources here will be helpful to your efforts on behalf of children and families’ well-being.

Black Lives Matter

From its earliest days, Head Start has been rooted in the search for justice, equality, and opportunity. We believe that Black lives matter and we believe that Head Start’s role as a catalyst for hope serves as a beacon of light in communities once again. We believe that today’s black Head Start children—innocent, inquisitive, and brilliant as they are—deserve a hopeful future where their lives are valued unequivocally.

How Can We Support You?

We will continue to update these resources and invite you to share resources and let us know how we can better support your program’s needs.
