Advocacy campaign
Families Unite for Head Start

What is the campaign?

This campaign aims to engage Head Start families in building lasting relationships with their members of Congress.

When is it?

The campaign will kick off on August 1st and continue through October, 2019.

About this campaign

Join NHSA as the Head Start community takes action to make sure Congress understands, values, and invests in the important role Head Start plays in the lives of vulnerable children, families and communities!

The purpose of the Families Unite campaign is to engage Head Start families in building lasting relationships with their members of Congress. Who else is better able to persuade our elected officials that the Head Start advantage is real? This is a great opportunity for families to unite together to activate representatives on behalf of Head Start’s model of support for the whole child, the whole family, and the whole community.

How can you get involved?

Effective leadership and advocacy is a marathon, not a sprint! That is why the Families Unite campaign will support Head Start families and leaders from all over the country from August through October—and give tools to continue beyond—as they engage with their respective congressional offices to champion issues that will preserve and grow the positive impact of Head Start and the Head Start community.  We're aiming to unite families from every state and territory, so add your name to the list!

Sign up to join the campaign.

NHSA will share tools, calls to action, and resources over the coming months. To make sure you’re up to date, and to meet and talk with other families and advocates from across the country, join the Families Unite Facebook group.

Why should you and your parent leaders join Families Unite?

  1. - Everyone has a unique and powerful voice. With critical funding decisions being made in the early Fall, we are inviting members of the Head Start community to engage and make sure their voices are heard. Every Head Start family has a unique story to tell and sharing it strengthens the voice of Head Start!
  2. - NHSA will help educate and empower advocates. NHSA’s Government Affairs team will make sure that you have all the resources necessary to schedule visits with your members of Congress. These meetings are critical to Head Start maintaining a strong relationship with Congress and making sure that Head Start’s impact is understood. Together, we will make sure that every visit strengthens the dialogue about Head Start and leads to results!
  3. - This is a critical point for Head Start and we need your help. Joining the rest of the Head Start community, and advocating with your members of Congress, is the best way to demonstrate to those who decide Head Start’s funding that Head Start matters. Families’ stories are the best advocacy tool to build on Head Start’s long and strong history of success!
