WASHINGTON, DC – The National Head Start Association (NHSA) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) today released a comprehensive toolkit to help school districts in meeting new federal requirements that they formally partner with Head Start and other early childhood education providers to facilitate the transition of children from early childhood settings to kindergarten.

WASHINGTON, DC – The National Head Start Association recognized eight U.S. Senators today for their continued support of Head Start with the PROMISE (Protecting Our Most Important Students Early) Award. Awardee Senator Shelley Moore Capito (WV), along with Head Start allies Senator John Boozman (AR) and Senator Jeff Merkley (OR), addressed leaders of the Head Start community during the annual Head Start on the Hill Breakfast, which kicked off a day of meetings with members of Congress and their staff.

Nearly 100,000 Head Start Children Were Impacted by Storms
WASHINGTON, DC – The National Head Start Association today welcomed congressional passage of legislation to provide $650 million to meet the recovery needs of Head Start programs impacted by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria. NHSA was also pleased the budget deal passed by Congress early this morning extended the Maternal Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting program (MIECHV), a program that helps guide low-income, at-risk mothers in parenting.

Senate Passes $250 Million Increase for Head Start

Earlier today, the United States Senate passed its Fiscal Year 2019 funding package for the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies. The bill, which also included funding for the Department of Defense, includes a $250 million increase for Head Start in order to meet the rising costs of high-quality services for our nation’s most vulnerable children and their families. The bill will head to a conference committee with the United States House of Representatives.
