Hiring new staff this year? Of course, you are! Everyone is! Getting them trained on the basics of Head Start and the training required by the Office of Head Start is vital. But, it can also be very overwhelming and time-consuming to plan and implement.
This ten-hour course is designed to train new staff on the basics of Head Start and will satisfy about 75% of the OHS training requirements. The course will take participants through a series of modules, each covering a specific topic. It is recommended this course be taken with Bias Busters Basics to meet more of the OHS required training.
This course is designed to help ensure all staff in your program are using similar language and coming to work with consistent sensitivities and understandings. Everyone has unconscious biases–that’s how our brains work! While fast thinking can make our brains more efficient, it can also be detrimental in a diverse working environment. Bias Busters is aimed at helping staff put awareness into action to create communities centered on equity, inclusion, and belonging.
Completion satisfies the OHS requirement for diversity, equity, inclusion training. Through pathways of empathy and grace, we can learn to empower colleagues, families, and even ourselves.
For new and existing Policy Council members, this course gives an overview of how Head Start works. Covering everything from the program’s rich history to grantees’ fiscal responsibilities, Policy Council Basics provides Policy Council members with a solid foundation upon which they can help lead and make decisions about how their program spends money, what children do in their classrooms, and how the program works with community partners.
Pre-registration is now open! This course will be available November 2021.
Fiscal management can be complex and challenging. Help set your staff up for success with NHSA’s Fiscal Basics course. Participants will learn where Head Start funds come from, how they can be used, and the responsibilities staff have as stewards of federal funding.
