Data is everywhere in the world around us. We often confuse data with plain numbers, but “data” is really those numbers in context. In the Head Start world, line staff is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of the “data workflow” that keeps the data environment healthy.
Data Essentials I explores the role of data in Head Start and answers two questions: “Why do people care so much about data?” And “What does this have to do with me?” Data Essentials I is an on-demand, self-paced training featuring six lessons, for a total of three instructional hours.
Data Essentials II explores how data is used in practice in today’s Head Start world and answers two questions: “How can data be used to make things better?” And “How can I be sure that the data I collect helps children and families?” Data Essentials II is an on-demand, self-paced training featuring six lessons, for a total of three instructional hours.
We recommend taking the two courses in order—Data Essentials I and then Data Essentials II—but the courses are self-contained, so you can choose to only do one or to do them in reverse order.
Pre-registration is now open! This course will be available on-demand in Spring 2022.
Whether you are budgeting for the year’s education supplies, overseeing renovations to a facility, or responsible for a single site’s overall budget, knowing and complying with all of the fiscal and program requirements associated with Head Start services is essential.
In Fiscal Essentials, Belinda Rinker, JD, (retired Office of Head Start Senior Advisor) and Alan Baquet, Ph.D., go beyond the basics and cover the fiscal responsibilities of staff with oversight over funding.
